The stories are drawn from communities across the province, from Sydney and Amherst to Halifax, from the rugged coast of the Eastern Shore to the historic town of Annapolis Royal. It won the Crime Writers of Canada Arthur Ellis Award and was a finalist for the Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Nonfiction Prize. Dean writes a monthly true crime column for Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and he is a professor of journalism and a member of the faculty of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction Program at the University of King's College in Halifax.
